MCM Survive Heat and Short Bench to Beat PRP Foxes 3–1
Sunday morning at Shell Park saw MCM face PRP Foxes under brutal heat, with temperatures testing every ounce of stamina. To make things even trickier, MCM were down to just 13 players, forcing Coach Braithwaite to shuffle the lineup and ask some guys to play out of position.
One of those heroes was Liam Breton, shifted to right back after Sameer decided tree stumps were a good opponent barefoot during our 3 week hiatus and Peter Hearn was nursing a sore back. Liam was everywhere, winning tackles, making pinpoint clearances, and even surging forward down the line – a Man of the Match performance if there ever was one.
The game itself was a tale of two halves:
First Half: MCM opened the scoring with Brennan McNicoll calmly slotting home a penalty in the 27th minute. PRP responded seven minutes later, sneaking one in off a scrappy corner after some poor defending, leaving the score 1-1 at the half.
Second Half: MCM came out firing. 2 minutes after the restart, Lucas – charging through defenders like a bull in a china shop, was fouled just outside the box. After a quick debate with Luke, Brennan unleashed a thunderous free kick over the wall and into the top bin.
Three minutes later, Lucas picked up the ball again on the right flank, drove hard, and delivered a perfect ball into the box for Nico Mejia, who made no mistake. 3-1. Game sealed.
Despite the heat and a tiny bench, the defensive unit of Luke, Stevan, Roman, Liam and Marko held strong, making sure the Foxes never got a sniff after the second half. Special shout-out to Marko Vidovich, who slotted in seamlessly at centre back after Stevan left the match after 30 minutes with a tight back.
Unfortunately, with every game comes a Parrot-worthy play. Jay Iyamah had a standout performance all day, but his once-failed chip over the keeper had the MCM players crying out Parrot shouts, reminding everyone that perfection is rare, but fun is mandatory.
This win marks MCM’s 10th straight victory, keeping the league title within reach. A match defined by adaptability, grit, and a touch of humor, proving that even with a short bench and a few injuries, this MCM squad is determined to make history.
