Clash of the Unbeatens: MCM Outlasts Donti FC to Stay Perfect at 6–0

In a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash between two unbeaten sides, Oakville MCM rose to the occasion with a composed and confident performance to defeat Donti FC and extend their perfect start to the season with a 6–0 record.

With both teams entering the match at 5–0, the stakes were clear — top spot in the league and early bragging rights. Despite an early scare, MCM showed trademark resilience and tactical maturity, turning the game on its head with a dominant first-half showing and a ruthless second-half finish.

The match kicked off under very warm, energy-sapping conditions at Shell Park, where the grass length was not ideal — a detail not lost on anyone involved. A much needed email from Ranells to the City Parks department is now officially on the to-do list.

There was also a special presence on the sidelines, as the man behind the MCM name — club founder Manfred C. Muntwyler — made his first appearance of the season. With “The Boss” in the house, Coach Braithwaite admitted there was a little extra pressure to make sure the squad delivered a proper showing. And deliver they did.

Donti FC struck first, just five minutes in, when a deflected ball in the MCM box caught the arm of Jacob Gramegna, resulting in a penalty. Donti converted from the spot to take a 1–0 lead.

But Jacob responded the best way possible — by delivering a corner just minutes later that found Brennan McNicoll, who rose up and buried the header. 1–1 inside 10 minutes.

MCM kept the pressure on and took the lead in the 25th minute, when Josh Portillo bent a free kick into the mixer, where Stevan Vukcevic finished cleanly to put MCM ahead 2–1.

Then, with five minutes left in the half, Mike Tait spotted the keeper off his line and showed pure class, chipping a perfectly weighted strike from outside the 18. The ball dropped under the bar and in for a 3–1 halftime lead, capping a clinical first 45.

At half Coach Gibby & Braithwaite kept the message short and sharp: “Don’t let them back in.” The squad bought in.

Just three minutes into the second half, Liam Breton worked the left flank brilliantly and picked out Nico Mejia, who slotted home MCM’s fourth. 4–1, and cruising.

With 12 minutes remaining, Jay Lyamah, continuing his comeback from injury, pounced on a goalkeeper error and slotted home his first of the season. While it wasn’t the cleanest finish, it was a deserved reward for MCM’s relentless work rate and pressure throughout the second half. 5–1.

Donti added a second with five minutes to play, but the result was never in doubt. MCM had total control from start to finish, adapting well despite the heat and surface — and putting on a performance worthy of the founder’s approval.
