Oakville MCM Edge Lakers 1-0 in Professional Display to Stay Unbeaten
Oakville MCM continued their strong start to the season with a disciplined 1-0 victory over the Lakers on Sunday afternoon in their first road game of the year. Battling gusty winds at City View Park, MCM put in a composed and professional performance to remain undefeated in their 50th anniversary campaign.
The lone goal of the match came in the first half and was the result of some excellent build-up play. Justin Johnston sparked the move down the left flank with a clever run and well-weighted pass inside to Brennan McNicoll. Brennan quickly fed Jacob Gramegna, whose shot took a heavy deflection off a Lakers defender and looped into the back of the net. It may not have been the cleanest finish, but it was the reward for smart interplay and pressure in the final third.
From there, the visiting side managed the match with maturity and structure. The defense remained organized, the midfield dictated tempo, and the forwards pressed with intent — a full-team effort that showed just how far this MCM squad has come in the opening weeks of the season.
The Lakers battled gamely and tried to break through late, but were denied by a rock-solid MCM back line and a confident showing between the posts by Adam Scanlon. Whether intercepting crosses, winning second balls, or calmly clearing danger, the MCM defense answered every question asked of them.
In contrast to the previous week’s high-scoring affair, this was a match defined by grit, focus, and clean execution — a professional win in every sense of the word.
Oakville MCM – Jacob Gramegna (1st half)
Brennan McNicoll – A commanding presence in the middle of the park, Brennan was everywhere on the day. He broke up play, won key tackles, covered every blade of grass, and played a crucial role in the winning goal. A true engine room performance.
